Every year the Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism is held on February 25th. On this day in 1947, Béla Kovács (1908–1959), Secretary General of the Independent Smallholders Party, was arrested and charged with plotting against the communist authorities. Found guilty, he was deported to a labor camp in the Soviet Union.
On the occasion of the Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism, the documentary film The Workers’ Militia – History of a Communist Fighting Force will premiere in Szigetszentmiklós. Following the film a roundtable discussion will be held in which the film’s director Zsolt Papp and VERITAS historian Dávid Kiss will participate. Dr. Kiss is also the film’s history expert.
