23 February 2017

On the occasion of the Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism, Eszter Zsófia Tóth will make a presentation titled Hungarian Women in the Gulag in Diósd.

According to Dr. Tóth: “As part of our research we have gathered never-before-heard accounts from Hungarian women who spent time in the Gulag. These we have sorted and analyzed, mainly on the bases of how different they are compared to the experiences of male prisoners and of how the years spent in the Gulag affected their lives afterwards. Our research has resulted in a study, presentations, special historical lessons and a film screening. As a part of our research we have also taken a look at the Armenian minority here in Hungary as well as in Transylvania, looking for those among them who had spent time in the Gulag and for their descendants. We wish to analyze what effect the traumatic event had on their lives and the lives of their descendants.”
