On March 21st, 2017, to honor the memory of communist genocide victims, the Hungarian Embassy in Riga is organizing a conference at the Latvian War Museum on the Latvian and Hungarian political prisoners and forced laborers who were deported to labor camps in the Soviet Union. Ambassador of Hungary Adrien Müller and Director of the Latvian War Museum Aija Fleija will give welcome speeches.
The traveling exhibition titled Hungarians in the Camps of the Soviet Union – 1944-1956 will be opened as part of the conference. Historians from Hungary and Latvia will present different angles of the two nations’ shared history. Representing the VERITAS Research Institute for History will be Archivist András Horváth. His lecture is titled Hungarians in the Soviet Camps.
