The parish of Szatmárnémeti Reformed Church and the Szent István Társaság (The St. Stephen Association) organize a commemoration of the victims and heroes of the Don Bend. In 1942 the Royal Hungarian Second Army was sent to the Don Bend to provide support in the assault on Stalingrad, where they suffered tremendous casualties in the fighting against the Russians. They are remembered as heroes by the Hungarian people. Following Holy Mass, Sándor Szakály makes his presentation titled The Royal Hungarian Second Army and the Don Catastrophe. Dr. Szakály’s speech is followed by a wreath laying at the WWII memorial in the courtyard of the church.
