VERITAS Research Institute for History and Archives

06 March 2018

The subject of the VERITAS Debate Nights series in March is the legacy of József Antall, the first democratically elected post-communist Prime Minister of Hungary.

The three participants are wholly familiar with the endeavors of the man who presided over Hungary during the System Changeover. Károly Kapronczay was Antall’s pupil at Ferenc Toldy High School, while later as a historian he succeeded Antall as Director of the Semmelweis Library and Archives of the History of Medicine. His debating partner is VERITAS Senior Research Fellow Eszter Zsófia Tóth, who has written three volumes on Antall, the third of which, titled Ceruzavonások Antall József arcéléhez (Sketches of József Antall’s Identity), is scheduled to be published on the day of the debate. VERITAS Deputy Director Endre Marinovich moderates the debate.  Between 1991 and 1993, he was Antall’s Chief of Staff. In 2003 he wrote a book titled 1315 nap – Antall József naplója (1,315 Days: The Diary of József Antall).
