At 6 PM on November 6th, 2018, we host the thirty-eighth installment of the VERITAS Debate Nights series at the VERITAS home office on Zsil Street. The title of the debate is Jewish Resistance in Hungary during the Holocaust. György Haraszti of the Jewish Theological Seminary – University of Jewish Studies and our former colleague László Bernát Veszprémy (now Research Assistant at the Migration Research Institute) familiarize the audience with the topic, while Róbert Hermann, VERITAS Subject Team Leader, leads the discussion.
The debate focuses on the endeavors of such Zionist activists as Rezső Kasztner, Rabbi Béla Berend and Dénes Szilágyi. As Marxist historians have distorted the memory of the efforts that these men made to save Jewish lives, a conservative historical reinterpretation is certainly of a timely nature.
Location: VERITAS Research Institute for History, Zsil utca (Street) 2–4, Budapest
