The Hajdúszoboszló Civil Book Club and the Protestant Parish of Hajdúszoboszló jointly organize an academic conference on the Education Bill of 1868 and the endeavors of State Secretary Pál Gönczy. Our colleague Ádám Schwarczwölder has been invited to participate. His lecture is titled The Education Bill of 1868 and Pál Gönczy.

Mr. Schwarczwölder outlines the changes and improvements that elementary education underwent in Hungary in the Dualist Era. He also introduces us to local hero Pál Gönczy, a trailblazer in education born in Hajdúszoboszló. Having played a role in helping craft the 1868 Education Bill, Gönczy later worked as a state secretary under József Eötvös and Ágoston Trefort in the Ministry of Religion and Education.

Location: Bocskai Events Center, Hősök tere (Square) 18, Hajdúszoboszló

Date: 10 AM on (Saturday) November 17th, 2018

Eötvös and Trefort can be seen in the photograph above. Both men served as Minister of Religion and Education.
