Our colleague Emőke Kovács’s new book Balaton Impressions: Destinies, Places and Histories premieres in Székesfehérvár. She sits down with Ákos László Végh to discuss it.

“I have been researching the history of Lake Balaton for the past two decades. To date, I have authored three books, given numerous lectures and written articles aplenty on the cultural, artistic and historical happenings surrounding Lake Balaton. In the three chapters (Destinies, Places and Histories) of my new book, I attempt to show the lesser-known side of Lake Balaton in the 19th and 20th centuries. I believe it is an ideal book not only for enthusiasts of the lake, but people who are only now familiarizing themselves with its history. It is ideal for students and young adults as well. In the tradition of the works of Gábor Lipták, Gyula Takáts, Bulcsú Bertha and András Fodor, it approaches the topic with proficiency. As a historian, I believe it is important to go to the source of the information and to make use of the professional literature. I hope that my work portrays an authentic picture while preserving historical traditions. May the reader turn the pages of the book with zeal!” – Emőke Kovács
