“There are few settlements in our homeland where one can pinpoint the precise date of its founding. Balatonföldvár is among these. Count Imre Széchényi with his brother Viktor officially opened the town, which became the pearl of the southern shore of Lake Balaton, at 5 PM on June 14th, 1896.” – (Balatonföldvár.hu)
For the past several decades, the local government of Balatonföldvár has celebrated the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the town by hosting celebratory programs on the first weekend after June 14th. This year, the 3-day series of events includes cultural, educational and sports programs. Visitors can also attend a roundtable discussion and conference about Count Imre Széchényi. Participants of the discussion include Minister of Agriculture István Nagy, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee Krisztián Kulcsár and Director of the Museum and Library of Hungarian Agriculture János Estók. Our colleague Gábor Ujváry is moderator.
The conference, which follows the roundtable discussion, is opened by Péter Boross (former Prime Minister of Hungary). Lecturers include Lajos Szabó (honorary associate professor), Györgyi Fekete (teacher), György Kurucz (professor) and our colleague Róbert Hermann. Chairman of the conference is Sándor Szakály.
