Studies from the history of Hungarian military intelligence and counterintelligence 1918-1945
It is unfortunate that the history of the Hungarian military intelligence and counterintelligence agency – which in everyday language is simply referred to as the 2nd VKF.* Department – has, even to this day, barely been researched. Perhaps the most obvious reason for this is that intelligence and counterintelligence agencies by their very nature have always been shrouded in “secrecy”, but the sad fact remains that in the case of the 2nd VKF. Department very few documents remain from the period, so we may assuredly claim that primary sources for the study of the history of Hungarian military intelligence between 1919 and 1945 are scant and hard to come by. This volume’s studies obviously do not provide a comprehensive overview of the agency’s history, but perhaps they may offer those who are interested in the topic a somewhat better understanding.
* “VKF.” is the abbreviation for Vezérkari Főnökség, which translates as “Chiefs of Staff”.
