Sándor Szakály’s presentation in Argentina

18 March 2015

As a guest of honor of the Hungarian Embassy in Argentina and the Hungária Association, Dr. Sándor Szakály has been invited by Éva Szabó-Purcelli, President of the Hungarian Association of Institutions of Argentina, to hold a presentation titled “Hungary in World War II”.

The Director of the VERITAS Research Institute for History is a noted expert on the Hungarian Diaspora. As part of his historical research on the interwar Hungarian military elite and the Hungarian gendarmerie, Szakály’s works have chronicled the stories of numerous individuals who, for one reason or another, had been forced to emigrate after 1945 or 1956. His visit to Buenos Aires is a major step forward in terms of enumerating and preserving both the physical and spiritual legacies of the Hungarian emigrants of Argentina, as well as giving national memory an organic, tangible basis.
