2015 07 02 Tamas-Edit-es-Szakaly-Sandor 260One of the most excruciating historical events in Hungarian history, the Treaty of Trianon was the main topic at the gathering held in Királyhelmec (Kráľovský Chlmec, Slovakia) on July 2nd, 2015, where Sándor Szakály, the Director at the VERITAS Research Institute for History, and Edit Tamás, the Director of the Rákóczi Museum in Sárospatak, gave their lectures The History of Trianon and its Impact on the Hungarians and Trianon’s Impact on the Hungarians of Zemplén-Abaúj, respectively, as part of the Remembering, Enduring lecture series. The most important messages to be taken away from the lectures were that the past had to be remembered and that the Hungarian people, who had fragmented as a result of Trianon, had to come together to forge a community, irrespective of where they lived, here or across the border.
