At 6 PM on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016, the VERITAS Research Institute for History will host its sixteenth Debate Night at the Budapest Business School. The topic and title of the debate is Franz Joseph, the Constitutional King. András Gergely, Subject Team Leader, will moderate the discussion between László Anka and Ádám Schwarczwölder. All three gentlemen are affiliated with VERITAS.
2016 will be the one hundredth anniversary of Franz Joseph’s death. This centennial is the perfect occasion to discuss his later years as king and how he ruled over the Monarchy and, within that framework, the Kingdom of Hungary. The VERITAS historians will describe in detail the Dualist system and Franz Joseph’s relationship with the other leading politicians, in connection to the political crisis in the years following the turn of the century and the impact of WWI on him. A few words will also be said about the king’s private life in his golden years, as well as about the Habsburgs’ dynastic relationships.
